Dover mystery solved: Twins found dead at cliffs ‘slipped while scattering mum’s ashes’

Muriel and Bernard Burgess were found next to another man’s body at the bottom of Langdon Cliffs.

Police are not treating the the deaths as suspicious – but rumours have been swirling about

Neighbours said the Burgess twins, who were 59, were both single and lived with their parents all their lives.

Their dad died in the 1980s and the twins and their mum moved to Flintshire, Wales.

Then in 2014 when their mum died, they moved to Elton, in Cheshire.

“I heard the twins were found with her ashes ”

Neighbour

A neighbour said: “I heard the twins were found with her ashes.

“It’s not clear whether they slipped and fell as they tried to scatter them or if they jumped holding them – just wanting to be all together at the end.”

A family friend added: “The twins were quiet but were also inseparable.”

Police are appealing for information to trace their final movements.
